Saturday Night Live has paid tribute to Sir Patrick Stewart, airing a clip from his 1994 hosting appearance just three days after his death was announced.
The tribute came at the end of Saturday’s episode on 31 October, before the closing goodnights.
NBC re-aired a short clip from Stewart’s 5 February 1994 episode, in which he enthusiastically introduces that night’s musical guests, Salt-N-Pepa.

The high-energy delivery has gone viral in recent years, along with another of his musical introductions from the same show.
A title card was also shown in his memory, featuring one of the promo photos he shot during his 1994 hosting week.
The show shared the picture on social media with the caption “Remembering Patrick Stewart.”
Stewart hosted SNL only once. No new sketches were reported as part of the tribute.
Stewart died aged 86 on 28 October, with his death announced the next day. His family said he had Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia, neither of which was public before his death.
His longtime spokesperson, Kelly Bush Novak, described a “brief and poignant journey” with the diseases, and said he was surrounded by family and friends.
The family asked that donations be made to the Johns Hopkins Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center Fund and the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America Caregiver Resources instead of flowers.
Tributes have poured in from across the industry, including from Sir Ian McKellen.
Marvel Studios released a still of Stewart as Professor X, calling him “a true gentleman”.
His final film performance, in Avengers: Doomsday, opens on 18 December, and Avengers: Secret Wars follows on 17 December 2027.
