ISLAMABAD: Security forces responded to unprovoked firing from Afghan Taliban border posts targeting Pakistani positions in South Waziristan, a deputy commissioner said on Sunday.

In a post on X, the South Waziristan Lower DC said Afghan border posts continued firing on Pakistani posts in the Angoor Adda area.

He said security forces launched an immediate and effective response, targeting multiple Afghan border posts, mortar positions and defensive installations.

The deputy commissioner added that Afghan Taliban personnel were forced to abandon their posts and flee following the strong response by the security forces.

He said no casualties were reported in the Pakistani border areas so far, adding that the security forces remained prepared to respond to any form of aggression.

The latest exchange comes days after Afghan Taliban forces opened unprovoked fire on civilian houses and Angoor Adda Bazaar on the night of October 27.

One civilian was killed, and five others were injured when a mortar shell struck a house in a residential area. Several shops in the bazaar were also damaged in the shelling, according to the deputy commissioner and security sources.

In response, security forces launched a retaliatory operation, destroying multiple Afghan Taliban checkposts across the border.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting subsequently said Pakistani forces had destroyed seven Afghan Taliban posts during the operation.

Islamabad has repeatedly urged the Afghan Taliban regime to prevent militant groups, particularly the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), from using Afghan territory to launch attacks inside Pakistan.
