Science content creator on YouTube, Hank Green speaks out after one of his recent uploads sparked major backlash online.
The controversy centred around Green’s prompter reading using AI-generated content during video recording.
The controversy led to a social media backlash after online sleuths noticed a line in science YouTubers’ video that was quite similar to one that AI prompts generate.
Users online termed the phrase “I appreciate the pushback” as proof that the AI generated note might have been left unedited in the script before camera rolled.
Hank, addressing the backlash online, shared a post on X (formerly called Twitter) and insisted it was off-the-cuff during the recording, and not intentional.
Though Green has since then removed the post, he did share a link on a Reddit post that added an image of the original X post.
Complexly host, Green, shared a lengthy reply in the comments below that Reddit post.
“I need to come to terms with the fact that the level of dopamine I’ve been getting from interacting with LLMs—with doing more and more and more and more, isn’t healthy for me or good for the world,” said Hank.
Hank then admits, saying, “I was talking about this with Katherine (Hank’s wife) last night, and she did not pull any punches. Frankly, neither did John. Neither of them think I’ve been being healthy. I need to readjust.”
The controversy has renewed the debate about the use of AI generated content in video creation.
