Prince William and Princess Kate took Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis to Glasgow on Saturday as they enjoyed a packed day of sporting action during the penultimate day of the Commonwealth Games.
One of the day’s funniest moments came at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome when five-time Olympic champion Dame Laura Kenny jokingly suggested that the Prince and Princess of Wales should climb onto a tandem bicycle.
Laughing, Catherine replied: “Be careful what you wish for, as they want to put us on a tandem bike in the velodrome.”
Welsh television presenter Gethin Jones then turned to the royal children and asked whether they would like to see their parents take on the challenge.
George’s answer was immediate. “No,” the 13-year-old replied without hesitation.
Kate smiled at her eldest son’s candid response, while William seized the opportunity for a joke, telling George: “We embarrass you enough as it is.”
The family later met Commonwealth athletes, including bronze medal-winning gymnasts Abigail and Emily Roper, as they chatted about sport and school life.
Kate proudly revealed that Prince Louis has recently been practising his handstands, encouraging her youngest son to share his latest achievement with the athletes.
Charlotte, who has long enjoyed both ballet and gymnastics, happily admitted she can perform a handstand herself.
George, meanwhile, was quick to poke fun at his own sporting abilities, joking that he was “rubbish with anything that involves flexibility,” drawing more smiles during the conversation.
The Wales family also spent time with Team Wales competitors and their families, discussing the Games as well as the children’s favourite school sports before heading back into the arenas.
