Prince Edward steps in for King Charles with key role

Prince Edward took on an important role on behalf of his brother, King Charles.

The Duke of Edinburgh was given the responsibility of taking the salute at the Veterans’ March Past, which follows the annual service at the Cenotaph.

Dressed in the uniform of the Royal Wessex Yeomanry, Edward stood at Horse Guards Parade as more than 10,000 veterans marched past to honour those who lost their lives in conflict.

The annual march gives veterans the opportunity to pay their own tribute to fallen servicemen and women, with former members of the Armed Forces representing generations of military service.

Joining him on the dais were Defence Secretary Wes Streeting and the National President of the Royal British Legion, Vice Admiral (Retd) Paul Bennett, CB OBE.

The Duke also paid his own tribute at the Cenotaph, laying a wreath bearing a personal message.

It read: “In memory of all who made the ultimate sacrifice, especially members of the volunteer Reserve forces – Edward.”
