John Wick is heading back into action, but this time, he won’t need to dodge bullets in live-action.
Keanu Reeves is officially returning as the legendary assassin for a new animated prequel film from Lionsgate.
The movie will take fans back to the story behind Wick’s infamous Impossible Task — the deadly assignment that helped him leave his life as an assassin behind and be with Helen, the love of his life.

According to Variety, the film will follow Wick as he takes out all his rivals in a single night to settle his obligation to the High Table.
Shannon Tindle, whose previous credits include Kubo and the Two Strings and Ultraman: Rising, is set to direct, with Ryan and Kaz Firpo writing the screenplay.
Lionsgate’s motion picture chair Adam Fogelson previously teased the project, saying, “In both animation and the world of John Wick, the possibilities are endless. And there is no John Wick story fans are clamoring for more than the ‘Impossible Task,’” Lionsgate’s motion picture chair Adam Fogelson previously said when the project was first revealed.
“Shannon’s take on that story is an incredible one, and we are beyond excited to see what John Wick can do in animation.”
The animated prequel is just one piece of Lionsgate’s expanding John Wick universe.
The franchise has already crossed $1 billion at the global box office, with a fifth main movie in development.

A separate film centered on Caine, the blind assassin played by Donnie Yen, is also in the works.
