Check your freezers: More frozen berries have been recalled over the risk of possible E. coli contamination.
A recall that was first announced in July and then expanded in September has been updated again to include additional lots of Great Value frozen Organic Triple Berry Blend, Great Value frozen Organic Blueberries and Trader Joe’s frozen Organic Mixed Berry Blend.
According to a bulletin from the Food and Drug Administration, Chilean fruit supplier Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A. updated its recall Friday to warn customers that their frozen berries may be contaminated with E. coli, bacteria, which can make people sick with severe stomach cramps, diarrhea and vomiting.
“This market action is taken as a precautionary measure following traceback information linked to frozen blueberries which were the subject of the first recall on July 3, 2026,” the FDA said.
The potentially contaminated products were already linked to an E. coli outbreak that infected 17 people and hospitalized six across Florida and Georgia, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. No deaths have occurred.

Most healthy people infected with E. coli recover within a week, but some experience a serious complication called hemolytic uremic syndrome, the recall announcement warned.
The CDC closed the investigation into the outbreak on September 21.
The recalled Great Value products have universal product numbers 7874211226 and 7874211213. The Great Value frozen organic blueberries and triple berry blend have best-by dates in January 2028 and February 2028. The blueberries also include a best-by date of June 12, 2028.
Both of the products were shipped to Walmart stores in 10-ounce bags across 30 states, as well as Puerto Rico.
At Trader Joe’s, the frozen organic mixed berry blend was sold in 12-ounce bags with a best-before date of February 20, 2028, in 26 states. The universal product code is 00977654.

Consumers who still have the recalled products in their freezers should throw the product away or return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund.
The Independent has reached out to Walmart and Trader Joe’s for further comment.
In July, Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A. recalled blueberries that were sold in Publix stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia due to the outbreak. GreenWise Organic Whole Blueberries and Whole Mixed Berries were recalled due to potential contamination.
Earlier this year, Oregon Potato Company issued a voluntary recall of nearly 60,000 pounds of frozen blueberries due to potential Listeria contamination.
