Grammy-winning singer Chris Brown is set to face sentencing on Monday over a London nightclub bottle assault happened in 2023.
The 37-year-old was found guilty in July at London’s Southwark Crown Court to a single count of affray. Brown was accused of attacking music producer Abraham Diaw with a bottle to the head at the Tape nightclub in Mayfair, London, three years ago.
Although Brown initially denied using a bottle for assault, the prosecutors stated that the brawl was captured on the nightclub’s surveillance footage.
In exchange for his guilty plea to affray, prosecutors dropped charges of attack, thereby attempting “to cause grievous bodily harm and having an offensive weapon, a bottle.” Besides Brown, his vocal coach Omololu Akinlolu was also pleaded guilty to an affray charge.
Soon after the incident, the singer left the UK; later he was arrested in May 2025 at a hotel in Manchester at a concert.
Speaking about the bail and sentencing, the creator of the Best R&B Album was previously released on a £5 million ($6.7 million) bail that enabled him to tour North America and Europe.
After being granted bail again, both men were scheduled for sentencing. The affray charge carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison.
He also has prior legal history as Brown was convicted of a felony in 2009 for assaulting his then-girlfriend Rihanna.
The singer was also arrested and questioned in Paris in 2019 on suspicion of rape, though he was released without charges.
Brown won his first Grammy in 2011 for Best R&B Album (F.A.M.E.) and his second in the same category in 2025 11:11 (Deluxe).
