Demi Lovato is returning to the Camp Rock franchise with a surprise appearance in Camp Rock 3.
Disney confirmed on Monday that Lovato, 33, will reprise her original role as Mitchie Torres. She is also serving as an executive producer on the film alongside the Jonas Brothers, who will return as members of the fictional band Connect 3.
In the original Camp Rock movie, Lovato played a shy but talented singer who attends a summer music camp, where she meets and eventually falls for a pop star played by Joe Jonas. The first film became a huge success, making both Lovato and the Jonas Brothers famous. A sequel followed in 2010.
The new film picks up years later, after Connect 3 loses their opening act ahead of a major reunion tour. The band returns to Camp Rock to find new talent, leading to new friendships, rivalries, and romances among this generation of campers.
The film will see a new cast of young actors playing campers, along with several returning cast members, including Maria Canals-Barrera as Mitchie’s mother.
Disney Branded Television’s president Ayo Davis also shared her excitement about bringing back the franchise in a recent press release.
“Camp Rock is an important part of the Disney Channel Original Movie legacy, with unforgettable music, energetic storytelling, and characters that live in the hearts of fans to this day,” Davis said in a press release. “Bringing it back with Kevin, Joe, Nick and Demi is such a full-circle moment, and we can’t wait to reintroduce this world to a new generation.”
Earlier this month, Lovato visited Disneyland with the new cast, sharing a fun video on Instagram where she danced and sang along to a song from the original film with the young actors.
Camp Rock 3 will premiere on Disney Channel on August 13, followed by its release on Disney+ the next day.
