Actor Abhay Deol recently opened up about his long-standing knee pain. In a recent Instagram post, he revealed that a slipped disc had caused persistent knee pain and sciatica in his left leg for a long time, leaving him feeling hopeless at one point. He explained how stem cell therapy at a South Korean clinic helped him heal.
The actor praised South Korea’s regenerative medicine system and detailed how the procedure helped him conquer his chronic knee pain.
Abhay Deol Shares His Stem Cell Therapy Experience
Sharing pictures with Dr Abraham An, Abhay Deol wrote a detailed caption about his experience. The Aisha actor recalled he had experienced knee pain and sciatica in his left leg for a long time due to a slipped disc, but didn’t want to go through surgery.
He wrote, “I never speak about my health or personal issues on a public platform, but I felt the need to share this. For a long time, I’ve had pain in my knees and sciatica in my left leg due to a slip disc. I felt quite hopeless at times, because I didn’t want surgery of any kind, especially for my lower back.”
After learning about stem cell therapy, he felt it was safe enough to try and revealed that he had received the treatment recently. He went on to add, “I’d been reading about stem cell therapy and thought it to be safe enough to give it a shot. I recently received stem cell therapy at Lydian Clinic via Jabez Medical Guide.”
Describing Dr Abraham as one of “Korea’s leading experts” in regenerative medicine and aesthetic surgery, Abhay revealed that the doctor assured him stem cells would help his condition. Explaining the procedure, he said it felt natural and safe, using his own cells to help his body heal itself.
Abhay further revealed that he recently returned for a second round of treatment and the clinic has stored his stem cells for potential future health needs. He concluded his caption with a note of wonder, “What amazing times we live in!”
What Is Stem Cell Therapy?
While Abhay’s post is certainly enlightening, it is important to understand exactly what stem cell therapy is and how it works. According to the Mayo Clinic, stem cell therapy, also known as regenerative medicine, promotes the repair of diseased, dysfunctional, or injured tissue using stem cells. In this process, researchers grow stem cells in laboratories and manipulate them into specific types of cells. These specialised cells can then be implanted into a person to help repair or replace damaged tissue and support the body’s natural healing process.
Benefits And Risks Of Stem Cell Therapy
According to Danaher Life Sciences, stem cells have shown the potential to help heal and repair the body. They can support the immune system as well. These treatments can also replace damaged tissues and provide structural support, helping the body work better. The benefits can significantly improve a patient’s quality of life.
However, like any medical treatment, stem cell therapy also comes with risks. One of the biggest challenges is whether the transplanted stem cells can survive, grow, and repair the damaged tissue. Changes to the cells’ genes or other factors during lab preparation can also affect how well they work in the body. Another big risk is immune rejection. This could necessitate immunosuppressive therapy, which can increase the chances of infections or other side effects.
