In season three of Lioness, there are two timelines. One of them shows Zoe Saldaña, who portrayed Joe, in the present and the other six months earlier.
The difference betweeen them that Joe in the current time has been abducted, while six months ago, there was an attempt to kidnap her.
However, for some viewers of Lioness, this dual timeline is confusing because, as some complained, they cannot easily distinguish whether the scene of Joe is from before or after her abduction.
Most prominent criticism came from Kevin Clancy, one of the founding content creators of Barstool Sports.
“One of the most BAFFLING decisions I’ve ever seen from a television show. Just absolutely no reason for S3 of Lioness to be told through multiple timelines,” he wrote on Instagram.
“Completely confusing and, in my opinion, doesn’t add to the value of the show. Feels like they’re just doing it to do it.”
He continued: “It’s not like it’s True Detective telling the tale through the different lens of each year; it’s just like ‘Let’s tell this f***** story out of order, man!’”
Under her comment, Saldana defended the show writing: “Just keep watching! Promise you won’t regret it!” she replied with several laughing emojis.
