Zayn Malik hospitalized day of album release and thanks nurses and cardiologist

Zayn Malik has revealed that he’s been hospitalized, posting on the day that his new album, Konnakol, was released.

The 33-year-old singer shared a picture of himself lying in a hospital bed Friday on his Instagram Story. While he thanked his fans and doctors for their support, he didn’t share further details about his health.

“To my fans – Thank you to all of you for your love & support now & always. Been a long week and am still unexpectedly recovering,” the One Direction alum wrote. “Heartbroken that I can’t see you all this week, I wouldn’t be in the place I am today without you guys and am so thankful for your understanding.”

“Thank you to all the incredible hospital staff of [doctors], nurses, cardiologist, management, admin and everyone who had helped along the way and continue to. You are all legends!”

The Independent has contacted representatives for Malik for comment.

Malik is set to begin his worldwide tour, “The KONNAKOL TOUR,” April 20, with his first show in New York City. He has not yet announced if he will cancel, postpone or proceed with the scheduled concert.

His new album, featuring 15 songs, dropped Friday. However, its lead single, “Die For Me,” was released back in February, only two days after the album was announced.

The “Pillowtalk” singer celebrated his new album and reflected on his achievements so far during a February appearance on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast.

“Five solo albums now — I was just buzzing that I got to do the first one after [leaving] the band, [and] people seemed to care,” he said, referring to his career after exiting One Direction in 2015. “I’m really proud of the progression and just the development and understanding of myself through my music.”

During an interview with Elle India, published earlier this month, Malik opened up about writing Konnakol and making sure his South Asian background was a part of it.

“I got into the studio, booked in for 14 days… the process was trying to create this vision I had in my mind that didn’t exist anywhere else,” he said. “There was no point of reference I could pull from or say, ‘I want it to be like this.’ Even though I was drawing from Konnakol in terms of the technique and bringing in South Asian influences, it was still something I’m proposing to a Western market, and I wanted it to still be R&B but have that flavor.”

“It’s always important for me to bring my culture into things because I feel that’s what makes me, me,” he added. “There are not many Indian-Pakistani artists here in the West that the world knows, so it makes it unique and individual.”
