Women’s divisional rankings: Thorslund claims top spot and undisputed title

Dina Thorslund became the undisputed bantamweight champion with a unanimous decision victory over Cherneka Johnson in the main event of Saturday’s MVP women’s card in Orlando.

Thorslund (25-0, 9 KOs), a former unified bantamweight champion, was relentless from the opening bell, putting together three- and four-punch combinations to earn a shutout victory. All three judges scored the fight 100-90.

Thorslund landed at least 13 punches in every round, while Johnson reached double digits in only three rounds. Johnson (19-3, 8 KOs) suffered her first loss since a unanimous decision defeat to Ellie Scotney in June 2023.

With the victory, Thorslund takes over the No. 1 spot at 118 pounds, while Johnson drops to No. 2.

In the co-main event, Tamm Thibeault defeated Desley Robinson to win the WBO and IBF middleweight titles in just her fifth professional fight.

Thibeault (5-0, 3 KOs) controlled the action throughout, attacking Robinson (12-4, 4 KOs) from the start. Thibeault threw 46 punches and landed 20 in the opening round. Thibeault landed 52% of her power punches (87 of 167) and 41% of her total punches (117 of 287), earning a shutout unanimous decision, with all three judges scoring the fight 100-90.

Thibeault takes over the No. 1 spot in the middleweight rankings, while Robinson drops to No. 2.

Also on the card, Amanda Galle upset Shurretta Metcalf with a unanimous decision victory in an eight-round junior bantamweight bout.

Galle (13-1-1, 1 KO), who lost to Cherneka Johnson in an undisputed bantamweight title fight in December, moved down in weight to face Metcalf. Metcalf, who also dropped down from bantamweight, was dominated in the contest.

According to CompuBox, Galle outlanded Metcalf 33-19 in jabs and 93-45 in power punches to earn a unanimous decision by scores of 78-74, 80-72 and 80-72. Galle enters the 115-pound rankings at No. 5.

Rankings are updated every Tuesday. They’re based on recent bouts, head-to-head competition and the quality of opponent. As with almost everything, until fighters square off against one another, there is a layer of subjectivity to it. Fighters who haven’t fought in 18 months and don’t have a fight scheduled will be removed from the rankings until they fight again.
