Tupac Shakur’s tragic death came a few hours after his brawl with Orlando ‘Baby Lane’ Anderson at MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
The late rapper believed he attacked one of his associates of Death Row Records, a record label he was signed up for.
Anderson, however, was a nephew of Duane “Keffe D” Davis, who is standing trial for allegedly providing arms to kill Shakur.
Here, enter Doug Poppa.
He has a long career in law enforcement and now works as an investigative journalist.
Poppa told NewsNation he was present that night when the altercation took place, though he did not witness it.
Then, the shooting took place, which shook not only the music industry but a wider hip-hop world.
Poppa, who served as an investigator at MGM Grand, said when he returned to work he heard a rumour.
The rumour, he said, was widespread at the casino he worked at and throughout Las Vegas.
That is, Anderson killed Shakur in revenge for being beaten up by him and his group.
“Word was spreading through the casino that Orlando Anderson had shot Tupac in revenge for getting the beatdown in the casino,” Poppa said.
“That was going through the casino and through Las Vegas among people who were associated with different groups. That was the talk that was going on.”
Nearly three decades have passed since the incident, but it is still apparently part of Poppa, who, as an investigative journalist, is intently focusing on the trial of Shakur’s murder.
