Starbucks fans rail against company over ‘disappointing’ Snoopy collection rollout

Starbucks fans have been let down by the coffee chain’s latest merchandise release.

The company announced a new collaboration with the Peanuts, including 10 collectible items available for purchase. Select items were meant to be available to Starbucks rewards members through the app as well.

Among the coveted items available to the public were a 16oz tumbler, a mini tote bag, and a charm. But the one fans seemed most eager to grab was the $39.95 20oz Snoopy cold cup, similar to the viral “Bearista” cup that sent the internet into a frenzy last year.

However, fans who had their hopes of securing the merch dashed have voiced their dismay over long early morning lines and a lack of inventory.

“I’ve gone to multiple Starbucks and instead of a rock I’ve just come away empty handed. Snoopy cups are gone,” one customer wrote on X accompanied by the iconic Charlie Brown “I got a rock” gif.

“I thought about going super early to try and get the #Snoopy cup from @Starbucks today… But having to get up before 4am just to go line up is ridiculous,” another wrote. “Starbucks REALLY NEEDS to find a better way of doing things with their exclusives. Make more for us to buy, but also don’t force people to do wild things to get them.”

“@Starbucks congratulations. You’re a joke. I stood in line for 45 minutes this morning for the @Snoopy glass. I was 3 people away from the counter. 11 people walked in hugged a barista. Then she gave out merch from behind the counter and told the store was they were sold out,” someone else wrote.

One customer who saw a long line before her local Starbucks even opened wrote on X: “I feel like an alien watching a human greed social experiment.” Another said their local store was a “f***ing warzone at 5am for this Snoopy stuff.”

“We were in line this morning. I got my 16oz tumbler yet the glass Snoopy were sold out(only 10 available). We had a reseller in front of us,” someone else wrote on X. “Currently waiting for the mall to open. 3 Starbucks here, 1 in Macy’s. Hopefully we will get a Snoopy cup. I’ve been up for 24hrs now.”

Some customers who are Reserve members — the highest tier of Starbucks’s rewards program — also had trouble shopping for exclusive Peanuts merch. One person wrote on X, “As a Reserve member, still can’t order any special collection stuff. My wife LOVES Snoopy and one of these tumblers would be loved (alongside our regular ones). But again, can’t get anything because the website is down, and stores are already out at 3:00 AM.”

The Independent has contacted Starbucks for comment.

This isn’t the first time fans have voiced their disappointment over limited edition Starbucks merch.

The coffee giant was forced to issue an apology over the “Bearista” cups, telling The Independent at the time: “The excitement for our merchandise exceeded even our biggest expectations and despite shipping more Bearista cups to coffeehouses than almost any other merchandise item this holiday season, the Bearista cup and some other items sold out fast. We understand many customers were excited about the Bearista cup and apologize for the disappointment this may have caused.”
