Cameron Hamilton — who was ousted as acting head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency in May 2025 after publicly testifying that the agency should not be dismantled — will be FEMA’s new leader.
The Senate confirmed Hamilton on Friday. He is FEMA’s first Senate-confirmed administrator under the second Trump administration and takes on the role during a busy season for emergency managers. The Atlantic hurricane season is underway, though it has so far been relatively calm. Meanwhile, devastating fires have hit Spokane, Washington, amid a roaring wildfire season in parts of the West and Pacific Northwest.
