After a surprising night for Republicans, Democrats flipped control of the Congress in the midterms.
The election night unfolded with the Democrats painting blue in GOP strongholds on Tuesday, November 3.
Scott Jennings, a CNN in-house analyst, appeared visibly uneasy while watching a Democratic colleague’s victory lap during a live broadcast.
Jennings joined CNN’s live broadcast of the midterm results on Tuesday night.
As the results started trickling in, Jennings was left with no other choice but to sit and watch his colleague Van Jones celebrating the Democratic wins.
When one of the hosts of election transmission, Anderson Cooper, asked if the result was “bigger than you hoped for?”
Van Jones responded while expressing his delight, “This is like Christmas and a birthday and the Easter Bunny and Halloween.
“This is the repudiation of Trumpism that people have been hoping for.”
To this, Jennings then gave a visible eye-roll.
In a post-election TV appearance on Fox News, President Trump weighed on the GOP losses and linked them to the Iran war.
Trump signalled he would veto the legislation agenda forwarded to his desk by the Democrats.
“They’ll send over things that are insane, and I’ll veto them,” Trump said.
“And after a couple of months of vetoes, they’ll call and they’ll say, ‘How do we get this stuff done?’ and we’ll work together,” he added.
Trump admitted that the Iran war played a key role in GOP candidate losses, saying, “I think a part of it was Iran, but at the same time people understood the importance of what I’ve done with Iran.”
Election night saw Democrats win control of Congress, scoring big wins in Republican strongholds like South Carolina, Texas and Iowa.
