Rosie O’Donnell lifted the lid on why she stepped away from her hit talk show in 2002, which reached millions of viewers daily.
The talk show host and comedian, who hosted The Rosie O’Donnell Show for six seasons, from 1996 to 2002, revealed in a recent chat that she quit her show after her bank account hit a comfortable amount for her and her family.
Rosie admitted that when she saw $100 million in her pocket, she felt it was the right time to say goodbye to The Rosie O’Donnell Show.
The 64-year-old artist told Page Six, “When I heard that [number], I thought, ‘OK, now I’m done.’
“And everyone was like, ‘Why are you leaving?'”
Another reason behind her decision was that she wanted to spend more time with her kids, as Rosie noted, “(I) had enough money to take care of everyone in my life, philanthropy and strangers.”
She explained, “I wanted to be at their softball games. I wanted to be at school plays.”
Rosie further revealed that Warner Brothers bosses even offered her another $100 million offer to continue the show for two years more but she declined.
She recalled, “They were like, ‘Why would you say no?’”
“I was like, ‘Because I already have that money and if I think I need more, something’s wrong with me,'” Rosie explained, noting she doesn’t “get the billionaires.”
She added, “I don’t get how people only measure their life in money, not what they can do for other people.”
It is pertinent to mention that Rosie shares five kids, Chelsea, 28, Parker, 31, Blake, 26, and Vivienne, 23, with former partner Kelli Carpenter and also welcomed another kid, Clay, 13, with late ex partner Michelle Rounds.
