Robert Downey Jr. reveals why he agreed to play villain in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Robert Downey Jr. has finally revealed why he agreed to play the villain in the upcoming MCU film Avengers: Doomsday.

The 61-year-old actor recently appeared on the Conversations for our Daughter podcast, where he opened up about his decision to return to the MCU as Doctor Doom.

“Having played Tony Stark for all those years, I’m coming back into Marvel again. Without Lewis Strauss and without [Christopher] Nolan’s endorsement, it wouldn’t make as much sense to say, ‘Oh yeah, I’m going to hit that button again, but now I’m going to do it in this genre,” explained Robert.

“But really, what’s interesting to me is digging into what happens backstage at the world, not being afraid of scale,”  he continued.

The Due Date actor added that Dr. Doom will be a new facilitator, so he is not sure how or what it will be like.

Elsewhere in the interview, Robert said that “I think also appreciation for validation is demonstrated in perspiration. So I worked my ass off to make sure that I was so prepared. Sidney Lumet would have been happy exactly with the way I showed up to set.”
