Netflix is pulling the plug on Ransom Canyon — meaning fans won’t be heading back to Texas for another round of ranch drama, romance and complicated family business.
The Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly-led series has been canceled after two seasons, just months after its eight-episode second season arrived on July 23.
Created by April Blair, Ransom Canyon followed three powerful ranching families battling over land, legacy and love in a small Texas town where, naturally, everyone seems to know everyone else’s business.
Season 2 picked up six months after the first installment, with Staten Kirkland (Duhamel) fighting to regain control of his family’s Double K Ranch while Quinn O’Grady (Kelly) struggled with whether her future belonged in Texas or New York.
The cancellation also hits closer to home for hundreds of New Mexico workers who helped bring the series to life.
During production on Season 2 in 2025, Ransom Canyon employed more than 700 locals, including 380 crew members, 40 principal actors and 300 background performers.
At the time, New Mexico Film Office director Steve Graham celebrated the production’s return, saying, “The return of Ransom Canyon for its second season is a powerful statement about our state’s production capabilities.”
“Netflix’s continued partnership proves that our combination of a skilled workforce, diverse locations, and a strong partnership makes New Mexico an ideal home for long-term series production. We’re proud to have them back.”
Well, that long-term partnership turned out to be considerably shorter than hoped.
For fans, the big question now is whether Season 2’s storylines get the closure they deserve — or whether viewers are simply being left hanging.
