Princess Anne steps forward for wreath-laying while husband Tim Laurence watches

Princess Anne took her place among the senior royals laying wreaths at the Cenotaph on Sunday, joining King Charles, Prince William and Prince Edward for the National Service of Remembrance.

The Princess Royal laid her wreath at the Whitehall memorial as her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, watched from the balcony alongside the Duchess of Edinburgh and other members of the Royal Family.

The annual ceremony follows a long-established royal tradition, with the monarch leading the tributes as head of the British Armed Forces.

While the royal men and Princess Anne took part in the wreath-laying, Queen Camilla and Princess Kate watched from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office balcony.

The Duchess of Edinburgh was also among those observing the ceremony.

Camilla’s wreath was placed at the memorial by her equerry, following the established royal practice, while the Queen remained on the balcony with Kate.

The different roles reflect the order of the ceremony and the positions held by senior members of the Royal Family.

Princess Anne, who has several military appointments, traditionally takes part in the wreath-laying alongside her brothers and nephew.

Sir Tim, a former senior naval officer, usually observes from the balcony.

Princess Kate has attended the National Service of Remembrance every year since joining the Royal Family in 2011.

Although she traditionally watches from the balcony rather than laying a wreath at the Cenotaph, she has taken part in wreath-laying ceremonies on other occasions, including Armistice Day and Anzac Day.
