Prince William and Prince Harry have not spoken to each other in years but it will be harder to avoid each other as the royal family will experience a shift in its dynamics.
It has been long speculated whether the brother, who were once inseparable, would ever be able to repair their relationship. Now that Harry would be in close proximity and there is a chance that he may show up to family events, would that make room for William to reconsider a reconciliation.
According to British medical doctor, journalist and author, Dr Max Pemberton, the situation is far more complicated as it seems. It could either resolve the matter or just make it worse.
He explained in his DailyMail column that estrangement will now be harder to ignore, and things would change “quite dramatically”. From his experience, he shared how siblings who kept each other at “arm’s length for decades” were “astonished” to address the rift so quickly.
For this particular case, King Charles is welcoming towards his son, possibly due to a love of a father for his son. However, the terms of their positions remain unchanged and so does William’s anger.
Dr Max suggested that William would not join the celebrations of Harry’s return.
“His complaint is, to my mind, perfectly justified: years of service, never once disobedient, and never so much as a young goat to celebrate with his friends. Then the younger son waltzes back in and is received with open arms,” he wrote.
Whether the icy relations would thaw, Dr Max noted that the Harry would have to earn William’s trust as simply retuning is not enough. Harry left at a time when the royals were going through a tough time, especially with the cancer diagnosis of Charles and Catherine.
“The situations I have witnessed over the years have made me realise that there always needs to be a mea culpa, some humility and acknowledgment of what has been done,” he continued.
“Time will tell whether Harry sees his mistakes. The key part of the parable is that the son apologises before the calf is killed.”
