Paris Hilton has hit back at online criticism over her family’s Beauty and the Beast-themed Halloween costume for 2026.
Some commenters questioned whether the media personality had taken center stage at her daughter’s expense when she shared her family’s recreation of the Disney movie on Instagram.
In the elaborate family portrait, Hilton was dressed in a yellow ball gown and a brunette wig as Princess Belle, while her husband, Carter Reum, was dressed as the Beast, in a mask and the character’s blue suit. Their three-year-old son, Phoenix, was dressed as the talking candelabra Lumière, while London wore a pink and purple dress as the talking teacup Chip.
On Thursday, Hilton addressed the criticism by saying that London had picked to be Chip because it was her favorite character in the story.
Hilton shared a video from a fan, content creator Sebastian Soto, who spoke out in her defense. She captioned the post: “When your daughter’s favorite character from ‘Beauty and the Beast’ is Chip, you let her be Chip! My little princess knows exactly what she wants!”
She continued: “Love creating all these magical memories for my #CutsieCrew… Have an amazing Halloween!”
In the video, Soto told the camera, “Does London look upset to you? Cause I think she looks incredibly happy knowing that her mom is a princess. And guess what girl? News flash, she’s being the character she loves most in Beauty and the Beast.”
“She is making her girl’s dreams come true and you know what else she’s doing, I don’t think you understand. Halloween is a time when you can be a witch, a Disney princess. Who cares what Paris Hilton is doing?” added Soto. “What Paris Hilton is doing for her children is creating a world of wonder, a world of magic, a world of memories.”
While some fans had said the family picture was “cute,” others took issue with Hilton being the leading princess.
“Cute but maybe the kids should have been Belle and Beast and the adults the side dishes I mean it is a kids holiday…” said one fan.
“Main character when it should be your kids moment,” said another, as one person critiqued: “Why not let your daughter be Belle? Attention has to be on her! Poor little girl!”
Earlier in the week, Hilton directly replied to a fan on the post, writing: “Beauty and the Beast is one of their favorite movies, and London said she wanted to dress up as Chip. She said it was her favorite character in the movie.”
For another Halloween-themed shoot, Hilton recreated The Addams Family. She dressed in all-black and a dark wig as the mother, Morticia Addams, while her husband was Gomez Addams. London dressed as daughter Wednesday and Phoenix was son Pugsley.
“How dare you be morticia!!!! Is what haters are going to say!! Loves it! Iconic,” one fan joked.
“We are renaming Halloween to PARISWEEN forever,” said another fan.
