Oasis documentary directors Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace finally shared insight into the tension between Noel and Liam Gallagher.
For those unaware, Steve Knight, the Peaky Blinders creator, is the man behind the forthcoming documentary Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger, as he not only wrote it but also produced it.
Notably, Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger captures every moment of Noel and Liam, especially their reunion after 16 years of feud and their first tour to mark their band’s 25th anniversary.
While conversing with Variety for an interview, Southern and Lovelace reflected on their time with both brothers while they were busy rehearsing for their highly anticipated world tour.
Voicing their feelings, they said, “It was amazing to watch. It was so interesting hearing the music come together, having not heard them play as a band for 15/16 years, but also seeing them reconnecting. It was a privileged view.”
Southern and Lovelace revealed that they witnessed their historic reunion from a distance just to avert any sort of danger.
They confessed that it was “literally the first time they’d been in a room together for a prolonged period for 15 years. There was no kind of messing around. As soon as Liam arrived, it’s like, ‘Right, are we doing this?’ And they were just going through the whole set.”
“But it’s sort of fascinating to watch that process and then the subtleties of their interactions, because there was no huge kind of coming together,” they continued.
Lovelace went on to share that the tension between Liam and Noel was there, but it suddenly vanished when they started playing their first comeback gig in Cardiff.
The English film director and writer shared, “There was definite tension. And, from our perspective as observers, that didn’t dissipate until that first moment when the expectant energy of the crowds met the nervousness of the band.”
“That was a real moment of alchemy. It was like something incredibly special happened when these people who’ve been waiting 16 years for this momentous thing to happen got it,” Lovelace stated.
At the Rock en Seine festival in Paris in 2009, both rock star brothers indulged in a physical fight backstage, as Liam, who was allegedly intoxicated, threw a tambourine at Noel, which led him to part ways with Oasis for good.
It is pertinent to mention that Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger is scheduled to open in theaters on September 9, 2026, on Disney+.
