Nicolas Cage reveals how raising a toddler in his 60s reshaped priorities

Nicolas Cage admitted that becoming a father at an older age has changed his outlook on life.

During a recent appearance on The New York Times‘s podcast The Interview, the 62-year-old actor talked about how acting without forethought or consideration of the consequences during his younger years had affected both his career and personal life.

Speaking to host David Marchese, Cage said, “It’s no secret that I have over the years, particularly early on, perhaps, had a lack of impulse control and probably shouldn’t have bought that car or shouldn’t have bought that property or whatever it was.”

The Ghost Rider actor shared that his playful side is still alive as a performer, noting, “You get a laugh when you do something unexpected. That’s what makes people laugh in my view, or you do something marvelously witty.”

However, Cage explained he lives a much quieter, calmer and more disciplined life today, opposite of what he used to have in the past.

”I am extraordinarily boring right now. I live a very monastic life. I am not taking any risks whatsoever if I can avoid it. I am really going to go the other way,” the actor shared.

And one of the reasons for living a “monastic life” is raising a toddler.

Cage gushed, “I am all about raising my three-and-a-half-year-old — my toddler — to have a happy and healthy life. That is my focus.”

”That, and when I work. That’s it,” he added.

It is pertinent to mention that Cage welcomed a daughter with his wife Riko Shibata in 2022. He is also a father to two adult sons from previous relationships.
