Nicki Minaj defends her admiration for Donald Trump: ‘He’s just himself’

Nicki Minaj has defended her support of President Donald Trump.

The rapper has become a vocal advocate for the US Republican Party over the past year, and recently appeared on Fox NewsThe Ingraham Angle to discuss working with the Trump administration.

“I am honoured to be able to have an opportunity to work with this administration and to work with President Trump,” she said. “He has inspired many people, not just me. And he’s – he’s fun.”

The Bang Bang rapper continued, “He’s not just smart, and, you know, he’s not just the president. But he’s also someone that I can relate to, someone that, you know, every time I see him, or every time I see him speaking to other people, he’s just himself.”

“He’s very… he’s very grounded. It’s easy to connect with him. It’s easy to feel like he heard you; he understands you. And I just… I just love him. And I’m not going to ever make excuses for that,” she further gushed.

Host Laura Ingraham then asked Nicki if she had anything to “say to the critics of you for working with the sitting US President.”

“Absolutely nothing,” she quickly responded. “I don’t know why I should.”

Back in December, the iconic rapper was the surprise guest at a Turning Point USA event, where she spoke with Erika Kirk, the widow of murdered political commentator Charlie Kirk.

There, she declared “respect and admiration” for the “handsome, dashing” Trump and criticised California Governor Gavin Newsom.

Nicki Minaj subsequently deactivated her Instagram account amid the backlash to her appearance and has faced multiple petitions to deport her from the US, having moved to the country from Trinidad when she was five.
