After Saturday’s dozen contests, the NHL offers a smaller slate Sunday, but there are some captivating matchups on the docket.
That includes the Heritage Classic — the All-Canadian outdoor matchup held at Princess Auto Stadium in Winnipeg this season — along with some interconference pairings and a GM taking on his old team. (Well, he’s not … but his new team is. You get it.)
Here’s a look at what you need to know for each game, including betting info and broadcast details:

Florida Panthers at Chicago Blackhawks
3 p.m. ET (ESPN+) | FLA -180, O/U: 6.5
Spencer Knight revenge game? The Connecticut native served as Sergei Bobrovsky‘s backup during the early part of his career but was traded to the Blackhawks in March 2025 as part of the package for Seth Jones. The Panthers would go on to win another cup that spring, while Knight is now backstopping Chicago through an ongoing rebuild.
The Panthers started the season 5-2-1 (including an OT win over the defending champs on opening night) but have lost two straight by an aggregate score of 9-1. Meanwhile, the Blackhawks are 2-2 since Connor Bedard‘s return this season. Which side earns the vital two points in this one?

New York Islanders at Dallas Stars
6 p.m. ET (ESPN+) | DAL -198, O/U: 5.5
Peter DeBoer revenge game? After guiding the Stars to three straight Western Conference finals appearances, the coach was unceremoniously dumped in the 2025 offseason. This will be his first game against his former team since that split.
But beyond that narrative, this could also feature a matchup between two of the NHL’s top goaltenders: Dallas’ Jake Oettinger (5-2-1, with a 1.23 goals-against average and .939 save percentage) and New York’s Ilya Sorokin (5-2-0, 1.72, .934). And in front of those tenders, two of the game’s elite defensemen will be plying their trade: Miro Heiskanen of the Stars and Matthew Schaefer of the Isles.

Montreal Canadiens at Winnipeg Jets
7 p.m. ET (TNT) | MTL -122, O/U: 5.5
As the teams head outdoors to skate in front of thousands of very cold fans, neither is in playoff position; that’s perhaps not a surprise for the Jets, who had modest expectations, but it’s shocking for the Habs, who some believe to be the best team in the Atlantic.
So we’ll see how this game plays out between these two teams (in their special uniforms). Also of note: This is the first game the Jets will play following the Connor Hellebuyck trade; he had not suited up for them this season, but perhaps the psychological burden of the uncertainty will be lifted?

Colorado Avalanche at Nashville Predators
8 p.m. ET (ESPN+) | COL -230, O/U: 6.5
Chris MacFarland revenge game? Well, that’s a stretch. The new Predators GM left the Avs on his own accord — and then made some notable trades with his former boss Joe Sakic, including acquiring Jack Drury and Ross Colton among others heading in both directions.
To no one’s surprise, the Avs are right in the mix for a playoff spot, while the Preds are a few points back. Do they make up any ground here — and do Drury and Colton make the difference?

Minnesota Wild at Vancouver Canucks
10 p.m. ET (ESPN+) | MIN -180, O/U: 6.5
Canuck fans revenge game? Here’s what Greg Wyshynski had to say in citing this as a must-see game in the Wysh List this week:
“Now that we’ve seen how Ottawa fans have greeted the return of a former captain who was traded to play with his brother after informing his team he wasn’t going to sign a new contract with them, Quinn Hughes plays in Vancouver for the first time following those exact circumstances. Well, save for the whole ‘playing with his brothers’ thing. That comes later.”
On paper, this does not look like a very close game — but we’ll make note here that these very same Wild lost 2-1 to the Flames on Thursday, and they’ll be skating in this one 24 hours after taking on the surprising Kraken.
Reminder: Fans can catch all the action in the NHL streaming hub and on the ESPN App.

Today in hockey history
Today marks the 35-year anniversary of one of the most consequential trades in the 1990s. On Oct. 25, 1991, the New York Islanders sent Pat LaFontaine, Randy Hillier, Randy Wood and a fourth-round draft pick to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Pierre Turgeon, Uwe Krupp, Benoit Hogue and Dave McElwain.
After 566 points in 530 games for the Isles, Hall of Famer LaFontaine would add 385 in 268 for the Sabres. He’d finish his career by skating for the third NHL team in New York State, the Rangers, scoring 62 points in 67 games in 1997-98.
