Meta launches record $95 billion equity raise to fund AI infrastructure expansion

In what marks the largest equity fundraising effort in the company’s history, Meta Platforms announced a sweeping plan to raise up to $95 billion to finance its capital-intensive artificial intelligence expansion.

The financing plan is split into two distinct phases.

Meta has launched public offerings worth about $35 billion in common and preferred stock, alongside plans for a massive follow-up share program as the race to scale next-generation AI data centers and cloud capacity drains cash flow.

The tech giant also plans to launch a separate at-the-market share sale program worth up to $60 billion.

Major hardware partners heavily tied to Meta’s infrastructure ecosystem—including Nvidia, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), and Broadcom—have reportedly expressed interest in acting as cornerstone investors, looking to purchase up to $5 billion of the common stock offering combined.

The company will launch the larger share sale program after its new non-voting Class C shares begin trading, which is expected in the first quarter of 2027, but said it has not yet finalized its timing and terms of the sale.

Even as Meta continues to log strong operational revenue, the astronomical cost of procuring advanced chips, powering data centers, and building out generalized AI superintelligence has shifted big tech’s strategy toward external equity funding to manage soaring capital expenditures.

Meta has been pouring money into chips and data centers to compete better with OpenAI and Anthropic.

The latest fundraising further underscores a shift among big technology companies increasingly tapping debt markets and raising equity to bolster their AI infrastructure, having previously relied on cash to fund their investments.
