Ryan De Nino, who appeared on Season 2 of Lifetime’s Married at First Sight in 2015, has died at 40.
A family member told TMZ that De Nino died suddenly earlier this week in New Jersey, though the family has not released details about the circumstances surrounding his death.
De Nino was paired with Jessica Castro on the show’s second season, which followed couples from New York and northern New Jersey.
The two chose to stay married after the series’ six-week experiment concluded, but their relationship became a subject of public scrutiny in the months that followed, most notably after Castro sought a restraining order against him in Queens Family Court in 2015, alleging he had threatened her and members of her family.
De Nino disputed the characterisation at the time, posting the court documents to Instagram and calling the filing an attack on his character.
The show’s production company, Kinetic Content, acknowledged the situation publicly at the time, noting that couples on the series can and do go through real breakups.
