These days, it seems three things are certain in life (and college football): Death, taxes and Jeremiah Smith putting up a big day.
On Saturday, the superstar Ohio State wide receiver added even more highlights to his ever-expanding ledger of production. He posted 10 catches, 188 yards and a pair of touchdowns … before the end of the third quarter.
His second touchdown, a 57-yard deep ball, caught the eye of one notable Buckeye fan: Philadelphia 76ers star LeBron James.
James, who had a scrimmage with the 76ers on Saturday, evidently had Ohio State’s matchup against Iowa as appointment viewing for once he left the gym. He took to X after Smith’s second touchdown with a simple message: Get the ball to No. 4, adding a “HEISMAN” hashtag for good measure.
THROW IT TO 4! #HEISMAN

Smith’s big day came with more than just plaudits from the NBA stars. He also made a mark in the Buckeye record book — his first touchdown tied the program record (set by Chris Olave) for all-time receiving scores, and his second score broke it. He also broke the Ohio State record for career receptions (previously held by Emeka Egbuka), hauling in the 206th of his collegiate career.
Olave chimed in on social media as well, congratulating Smith for breaking his record.
Could a Heisman Trophy win be the next step for Smith? There are plenty of games left to determine that. One thing is for certain, though — the star wideout will have one of the NBA’s all-time greats watching along.
