King Charles, known for his witty one-liners in speeches, has tried to turn his recent mishap into a royal joke in front of world leaders.
In his latest cheeky speech during a special dinner for Commonwealth leaders on the penultimate day of their Antigua and Barbuda trip, the 77-year-old couldn’t help but take a swipe at British politics back home.
He said with smile: “It has been a great pleasure to meet so many prime ministers, almost as many as I’ve had at home.”
The monarch couldn’t resist laughing at his own words once he delivered it, and the guests joined him with a hum of giggles echoing around the room.
King Charles might have been advised by Queen Camilla to cover up that awkward rainy moment with his witty tactics, and he did it. Instead of hiding, he faced it with a smile.
The monarch also changed the mood by addressing his momentary anger that had gone viral.
On Monday when a torrential spell hit the royals at the Sir Vivian Richards cricket stadium Queen Camilla was handed a clear umbrella for shelter, while the King was left standing in the deluge while his team struggled to find an umbrella for him.
After being caught on camera showing his frustration, the monarch lightened the mood with a classic line, joking that he was “growing watercress on my trousers.”
