Kelly Clarkson fumes over ‘Pretty Woman’ treatment at expensive store

Kelly Clarkson has told an upmarket toy store in Brooklyn that they’ve made, in the words of Julia Roberts’ character in Pretty Woman, a “big mistake.”

The 44-year-old singer and former talk show host took to social media to claim that she was treated poorly by staff at Art of Play.

She compared the experience to the famous scene in the 1990 movie where Roberts’ character is looked down on while shopping on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills.

Clarkson wrote on X: “Just drove all the way to Brooklyn to check out this store I thought looked really rad and had a few things in mind to buy and literally was looked at as if I couldn’t afford it and was told he could find something comparable for me.”

She continued: “Wow, dude. You’re an idiot and just lost a huge sale. But y’all should go check out Art of Play in Brooklyn if you enjoy being treated like Julia Roberts character in Pretty Woman. For sure, check it out.” She concluded her message with a “thumbs down” emoji.

The store has not formally responded to Clarkson’s claim, although they recently reshared an Instagram story from another user that reads: “For what it’s worth, I think Art of Play is a great store!”

The Independent has reached out to Art of Play for comment.

Earlier this month, Clarkson surprised fans when she revealed she is “obsessed” with using AI and supports the use of it for creative purposes.

However, she did add that she draws the line at having AI songs on the music charts.

Speaking on the Las Culturistas podcast with Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers, Clarkson said: “It’s controversial, I don’t care – I love AI.

“There’s very amazing things with AI that I’m obsessed with. I’m very into it artistically, too.”

She went on, discussing her argument that there should be separate music charts for AI-generated music.

“But when you see AI artists competing on a chart with humans, I have an issue. I think there should be a separate chart. I think it’s welcome to the table; it’s really cool and creative what we’re going to create with AI musically – people that maybe can’t do certain things will be able to do it now,” she said.

She added that she thinks AI is a “fun field to play in” but she doesn’t believe that robots should be competing with humans in the music industry.

“I’m down with it. It’s a very interesting thing and what we’re gonna do with it is gonna be fun, but I do not think they should be competing,” she said.
