Jenna Fischer just shared a humbling memory from early in her career, back when The Office was just beginning to take off.
During a recent podcast appearance, Fischer, 52, recalled a moment when she and a few of her castmates decided to celebrate the show’s second-season renewal with lunch at a well-known Los Angeles restaurant.
“I have a very funny story from, my gosh, I think we were going back for season 2 of The Office,” Fischer told Jesse Tyler Ferguson on his Dinner’s on Me podcast.
“Me and Angela [Kinsey] and Kate [Flannery] and Phyllis [Smith] from The Office, we decided we were going to have a ladies’ lunch to celebrate getting picked up for season 2, and we were going to go to The Ivy.”
She then explained that after a mix-up with their seating, the group ended up being seated away from the main patio area.
As they were leaving the restaurant, they noticed photographers rushing toward them and briefly thought they were about to be recognised for their growing success.
“The paparazzi come running and we’re like, ‘It’s happening!’ And then they just run right past us, down to take a picture of someone else,” she said.
Fischer recalled that one of her castmates then mentioned to a journalist there that they were from The Office on NBC, which led to a funny mix-up as the photographer got the impression that they simply worked at NBC‘s offices rather than starring in a TV show.
The photographer even offered them his business card, unaware of who they actually were.
“‘Can I give you my card? If you ever hear of anyone who’s out and about, will you please call me? Anybody from NBC that you want me to feature, you just let me know,’” Fischer recalled the photographer’s words.
The show ran for nine seasons.
