A 63-year-old man has been arrested after crashing his vehicle through the front gates of Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s mansion in East Hampton, New York, earlier this week.
Police says the man drove at a high speed up the property’s driveway and failed to stop before hitting the closed security gates, which caused significant damage.
Officers arrested the driver at the scene before taking him to Stony Brook Hospital after he complained of pain.
Authorities seized his vehicle and filed criminal trespass and mischief charges as the investigation continues.
Police said there is currently no evidence that the man intentionally targeted the celebrity couple.
Detective Sergeant Jennifer Dunn said the driver appeared confused during and after the incident. She added that he has no criminal record and did not mention Jay-Z, Beyoncé or anyone living at the property.
Investigators also learned that before the crash, the man had stopped at another nearby home looking for a woman. After being told she did not live there, he drove away. The homeowner also reportedly told police that the man seemed confused.
Authorities said they found no weapons, written notes or evidence of threats, leading investigators to believe the incident may have been linked to a medical issue rather than a deliberate act.
Jay-Z and Beyoncé have not publicly commented on the incident.
The couple purchased the seven-bedroom East Hampton estate in 2017 for about $26 million.
