Indiana running back Khobie Martin will be out until midseason after leaving the Hoosiers’ season-opening win over North Texas with an injury, coach Curt Cignetti said Monday.
Martin, who was expected to be part of the team’s running back rotation this season, appeared in an Instagram story on Sunday with his right arm in a sling.
“Khobie Martin will be out a little bit,” Cignetti said. “[We] expect him back midseason.”
Martin played, but did not record a carry, in the Hoosiers’ 52-16 victory against North Texas. Boston College transfer Turbo Richard and Lee Beebe Jr., who returned after missing most of last season with a knee injury, handled most of the carries for IU.
Martin had 505 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 78 carries last year as Indiana’s No. 3 running back, behind Roman Hemby and Kaelon Black. The 6-foot, 210-pound native of Fishers, Indiana, is in his third season with the Hoosiers.
Cignetti also said that starting cornerbacks A.J. Harris and Jamari Sharpe, who both left the North Texas game, are day-to-day.
