Gilmore Girls star Kelly Bishop is releasing her first novel, Broad Appeal, which William Morrow will publish in autumn 2027.
Bishop announced the book on Thursday 5 November, and has co-written it with Ali Rosen, a New York Times bestselling author.
The story follows four women in their 70s who become roommates in a Manhattan apartment.

Its central character, Roz, is a 78-year-old retired divorcée living on the Upper West Side. Rising housing costs force her to take in roommates, among them her eccentric sister-in-law, an entomologist, a former trophy wife recovering from financial ruin, and a dance teacher she met while protesting gentrification in Spanish Harlem.
The arrangement becomes a makeshift family, until old secrets, money troubles and past heartbreaks put it to the test. The novel is described as blending the friendship and humour of The Golden Girls with the banter of Sex and the City.
“I’ve always believed that growing older doesn’t mean growing smaller,” Bishop said of the book.
Bishop is best known for playing Emily Gilmore in Gilmore Girls, and for her roles in Dirty Dancing and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
On stage, she originated the role of Sheila in A Chorus Line, which won her a Tony.
The novel follows her memoir, The Third Gilmore Girl, a New York Times bestseller released in 2024.
