Gerard Way just made it official: My Chemical Romance will start working on new music next year.
During the rock band’s Hollywood Bowl concert on Friday, October 30, their frontman confirmed that their next album will arrive at the latest by 2028.
“Next year, we wanna go make a record,” he told the crowd per fan-captured footage. According to Way, MCR will spend the next year in the studio and resume touring in 2028. “Hopefully, we’ll see you guys in 2028,” he teased.

Way first teased the album (which would mark their fifth studio album) on September 12 during the group’s final Long Live the Black Parade show — their first tour since reuniting in 2019. “Just know that, like, we’ve kind of really always wanted to make another record, so we hope life allows us to do that,” he said at the time, telling fans that they “deserve another record” for their never-ending support.
The group — consisting of brothers Gerard and Mikey Way, Ray Toro, and Frank Iero — broke up in 2013 but got the band back together in 2019. Since then, they’ve been touring and have yet to release another album following 2010’s Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Five.
Their only new release since then has been the 2022 single The Foundations of Decay.
