Georgia lands top-25 recruit in shooting guard Jarvis Hayes Jr.

Top-25 recruit Jarvis Hayes Jr. committed to Georgia on Sunday evening, giving the Bulldogs one of their highest-ranked recruits in the past 15 years.

Hayes is the son of Georgia assistant and alum Jarvis Hayes, who was a two-time All-SEC selection for the Bulldogs in the early 2000s before being a lottery pick in the 2003 NBA draft. Hayes’ uncle, Jonas, who played with his twin brother on Georgia’s 2002 NCAA tournament team, is also on Georgia’s staff.

A 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Woodward Academy (Georgia), Hayes is ranked No. 22 in the SC Next 100 for the class of 2027 — the No. 4 shooting guard in the country. He was one of the best players last spring and summer on the Under Armour Association circuit, averaging 19.5 points during UAA’s first session and continuing his stellar play at the UAA Finals in July.

Despite the familial connection, Hayes entertained other options besides Georgia during his recruitment. He took a visit to Florida State in late August and also had Vanderbilt and Georgia Tech on his final list.

Hayes is Georgia’s second commitment in the 2027 class, joining SC Next 100 guard Justin Wise.

He’s also the third-highest-ranked prospect to commit to Georgia in the past 15 years, following Asa Newell (No. 13) in 2024 and Anthony Edwards (No. 4) in 2019.
