Dolly Parton’s estate withdraws case against nephew Bryan Seaver

Dolly Parton’s estate has dropped its lawsuit against her nephew and former head of security, Bryan Seaver.

She’s Alive, LLC, the company Parton set up to look after her business interests following her death on 25 August, filed a notice of voluntary dismissal in the Chancery Court of Tennessee on Thursday 5 November, according to documents obtained by PEOPLE.

The dismissal was filed without prejudice, which means the company could choose to bring the case again.

The surprise filing follows weeks of back and forth between She’s Alive, which is run by Parton’s longtime manager Danny Nozell, and Seaver.

He had worked as his aunt’s head of security for more than 20 years before being fired in September.

Seaver’s attorney welcomed the news in a statement to TMZ.

“Mr. Seaver cares deeply about his Aunt Dolly, her music, her family, and the incredible legacy she left behind,” the lawyer said.

The statement added that he is “grateful to put this misunderstanding behind him so that the entire family can continue to grieve peacefully and ensure that the bright light of Dolly’s legacy remains entirely untouched.”

Attorneys for both sides did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

She’s Alive had alleged that Seaver made extortionate threats that referred to his military background, and that his behaviour led several employees to resign.

It also accused him of threatening to “destroy” Parton’s brand partnerships through a podcast.

Seaver denied threatening anyone. He said private messages with Nozell, in which he admitted using “profane” language, were taken out of context, and that their exchanges were “ultimately friendly”.

In an October filing, he said a temporary restraining order was interfering with his life and with his position as a beneficiary of Parton’s trust.

“I care about Ms. Parton, her music, her legacy, and her family. I do not want this dispute to harm her legacy,” he wrote in a filing dated 13 October.

Several hearings had been delayed and rescheduled, though a motion hearing had been due on 13 November.

On 26 October, Seaver shared a message on Facebook written by his mother, Cassie, Parton’s younger sister.

In it, she said she was speaking “as a mother who dearly loves her son”, and described the “very special and meaningful relationship” he shared with the singer, who chose him to announce news of her death.
