Costco is breaking out sweet treats that fans are willing to pay a yearly membership for.
The warehouse chain is known to sell classic bakery items like croissants and sheet cakes, but is now trying out new pastry recipes that have left shoppers raving online.
After the beloved Blueberry Caramelized Cheesecake Croissants became popular last year, the wholesale store has now released its latest endeavor: the Kirkland Signature Lemon Cream Caramelized Croissant.
The lemon dessert is exactly what its name describes: flaky dough and a lemon filling baked into a crispy pastry. But these treats are baked in a round paper liner and get their name, in part, due to sugar at the bottom of the liner that caramelizes while in the oven.
Influencer Laura Jayne Lamb, who has amassed more than three million Instagram followers for her Costco-related content, said it is “one of the best things the Costco bakery has ever done,” adding, “The outside is crisp, buttery, and caramelized, and the middle has this soft tangy lemon cream that balances it out perfectly.”
In the comments of Lamb’s video reviewing the new treat, which costs $12.99 for half a dozen, fans were eager to get their hands on the croissant. “Do I have a membership? No, am I gonna buy one JUST FOR THIS? Maybe,” one person wrote, referencing the store’s $65 annual fee.
“Ok Costco…you got me..I’m gonna get a membership. Idc anymore that I have to drive over an hr to get there and over an hr back,” another person commented. A third added, “Say less I’ll be there tomorrow.”
Other Costco shoppers were excited to see a variation of the fan-favorite blueberry pastries. “The blueberry ones were so good I can only imagine how delicious this will be. Must try!” one person wrote on TikTok.
“The blueberry ones were delish and lemon is one of my favorite flavors…problem is I’ll eat them all myself,” another customer admitted.

The croissants are rolling out to Costco locations across the U.S., and shoppers can call their local store to see when they will hit shelves.
Costco has not released any information about how long the pastries will remain available, and did not immediately return The Independent’s request for comment.
It comes months after Costco began selling buttermilk biscuits in its bakery section. A 10-count box costs around $6.99, depending on location, and is still available for purchase in many stores.
However, the lemon croissants have been met with more excitement than the butter biscuits, which shoppers criticized online as being dry to the taste.
