Colorado quarterback Julian Lewis suffered a medical emergency at Colorado’s athletic facility Wednesday and was transported to the hospital, his father announced Thursday.
In a post on X, T.C. Lewis wrote that his son is “recovering and thankful to his medical team, teammates and Colorado fans for their prayers and support.”
T.C. Lewis offered no specifics regarding the emergency and said the family has no further comment at this time. In a statement on Thursday, Colorado confirmed that Lewis suffered a medical emergency but did not provide any further details.
“Colorado Athletics extends our full support to JuJu and his family through this medical emergency,” the school said. “He remains in the thoughts of every CU player, coach, and staff member and we will continue to assist in any way we can in his full recovery. His health and well-being remain our top priority during this time.”
Lewis was listed as doubtful on the initial Big 12 availability report Wednesday night.
Lewis, the No. 12 overall recruit in the 2025 SC Next 300, started Colorado’s first four games this season but was benched during the Buffaloes’ Big 12 opener, a 23-13 loss at Baylor.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound sophomore threw for 733 yards on 64% passing with seven total touchdowns and three turnovers over his four starts.
Backup Isaac Wilson has started each of the past three games for the Buffaloes (2-5, 0-5 Big 12), and Lewis hasn’t appeared in a game since losing the starting job.
During his weekly news conference Tuesday, Colorado coach Deion Sanders was asked if Lewis is still competing for the job. He said he didn’t want to give an answer that could be perceived as “taking a shot at a kid” and that he was “not going to go down that rabbit hole.”
“I don’t want to go down there,” Sanders said. “You guys do your homework.”
Colorado hosts Kansas State on Saturday.
