Charli XCX has opened up about her relationship with husband George Daniel, saying he was the first person who truly understood her.
Speaking on The Zane Lowe Show on Apple Music, the singer said her new song I’m Afraid was inspired by her relationship with Daniel and her fears about commitment.
Charli said the drummer of The 1975 understood both her strengths and her flaws. She described him as the first person to know her so deeply.
The 33-year-old also spoke about the challenges of balancing her music career with her personal life. She admitted that being an artist can sometimes make people focus on themselves, but said a healthy relationship requires putting another person first.
Charli said Daniel has helped her separate her work from her personal life. She added that he has given her confidence and supported her through different stages of her career.
“I wouldn’t be where I am today without him,” she said, explaining that he helped her feel more secure and comfortable with herself.
Charli and Daniel first went public with their relationship in 2022 after meeting through music. The couple got engaged in 2023 and married in 2025. They first held a small town hall wedding before celebrating with a second ceremony in Sicily later that year.
The singer said their relationship has helped her grow both personally and professionally.
