Bruno Fernandes’ home burgled during Man United loss against Como

Police are investigating a burglary at Bruno Fernandes‘ home which took place as he returned from Italy with Manchester United after losing to Como.

Fernandes’ family are understood not to have been in the house at the time and police quickly attended the scene, with United supporting their skipper.

A statement from Cheshire Police, given to ESPN, read: “At around 8.30 p.m. on Wednesday Oct. 21, police were called to reports of suspicious activity at an address in the Alderley Park area of Nether Alderley.

“The caller reported three unknown men in the rear garden of a neighbouring property.

“Officers attended the scene and on arrival there was no trace of the suspects. However, officers discovered that there had been a burglary at the address and a number of items had been stolen.

“An investigation into the incident has been launched and enquiries are ongoing.”

Detective Inspector David Jarvis of Macclesfield Proactive CID said: “This investigation is in its early stages at this time, and we’re committed to doing all we can to trace the people responsible.

“As part of our enquiries were keen to hear from anyone who was in the local area at the time and believes they may have witnessed anything suspicious.

“The same goes for anyone with any CCTV or dashcam footage which may aid the investigation.”

Carrick says he feels backed by Man United’s board

A catastrophic night in Lombardy saw United suffer a humiliating 4-1 loss to Cesc Fabregas’ side, which extended their winless run to seven fixtures and led to Fernandes publicly questioning the approach of boss Michael Carrick.

The result, alongside Fernandes’ comments, had raised serious questions about Carrick’s future ahead of Sunday’s Premier League home game against Bournemouth, but he will remain in charge for that match, sources told ESPN.

United skipper Fernandes has been a pale imitation of last season’s performer so far this term, and questioned Carrick’s tactics as another Champions League trip ended with an eye-catching post-match player interview following on from last week’s remarks by Lisandro Martínez.

Fernandes claimed it was the staff’s decision “not to press man-to-man and sometimes leave a little bit of space in behind” in Como.

Information from ESPN’s Rob Dawson, and the Press Association, contributed to this report.
