MUNICH — Ballon D’Or winner Harry Kane received a guard of honor from his Bayern Munich teammates before a German Cup second-round rout of second-tier FC Magdeburg on Wednesday.
The 33-year-old striker waved to the home crowd at Allianz Arena when he walked out. He was named on the bench against Magdeburg.
Bayern went on to cruise past the second-division foe with a Michael Olise double leading the way in a 5-1 rout.
Kane became the first English winner of the prize in 25 years as Bayern celebrated their first Ballon D’Or winner in 45 years, and the first for any player at a German club since 1996.
The England international scored 73 goals for club and country last season, when he was Europe’s top scorer, and his six goals at the World Cup helped the Three Lions to a third-place finish.
Kane is Bayern’s fourth Ballon D’Or winner after German greats Franz Beckenbauer, Gerd Müller and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who won in 1981.
In addition to the Ballon d’Or top prize, Kane also took home the Gerd Müller award as the top goalscorer in the world.
Kane finished ahead of Kylian Mbappé of Real Madrid and Barcelona‘s Lamine Yamal in the final Ballon d’Or vote.
