It appears that Carly Simon reflected on her complex relationship with her former husband James Taylor in her new song Maybe I Never Loved You.
For those unaware, the 83-year-old American musician and singer-songwriter dropped her album, Come in Waves, after 18 years on August 14, 2026. The album comprises twelve tracks.
Simon reportedly hinted at her strange relationship with Taylor in Maybe I Never Loves You, as she sings, “Maybe I never loved you / But anyway, I thought I did.”
The Anticipation hitmaker croons, “I married you, we had a kid / That counts for something,” followed by the lines, “You’re So Vain / Maybe I never loved you / Yes, and maybe I did / Hey, maybe you never loved me / Although God knows, you said you did.”
She also sings, “Maybe it’s best to bury whatever it was we had our fill of,” and concludes it, “Maybe I never loved you / Maybe I always will.”
For those unaware, Simon and Taylor, the renowned singer-songwriter and guitarist, emerged as a high-profile music couple in the 1970s. They tied the knot in November 1972, welcomed two children together, Sally in 1974 and Ben in 1977, and annulled their marriage in 1983.
It is pertinent to mention that the main reason for their divorce was James Taylor’s substance addiction.
