For Indians, if you want to experience Nora Fatehi’s Morocco, travellers will need to obtain an e-visa.
Nora Fatehi was in Morocco for AFCON
Nora Fatehi has never been more vocal or prouder of her heritage as a Moroccan. Recently, she visited her birth country to show her support for the home team during AFCON – the Africa Cup of Nations. While the Moroccan football team might’ve lost in the finals, the actor-turned-singer couldn’t help but be proud of her team.
In a post on Instagram, Nora Fatehi wrote, “I wanna take this time to appreciate the experience I had here at AFCON and in Morocco!… This last few weeks I enjoyed some of the best moments with my friends and loved ones! I felt what it means to be passionate and patriotic ! It’s more than football for us! It’s celebrating our country, our king, our people and our development!”
If you want to experience the actor’s country, Indians will need a visa and can obtain an e-visa. There are no direct flights, and flying usually means having a layover in a Middle Eastern or European country.
Morocco blends ancient medinas, desert dunes, and coastal drama into one mesmerising journey. From imperial cities to Sahara sunsets, here are 6 standout destinations to visit if you are planning on travelling this year.
Marrakech: The Red City
Marrakech pulses with souk energy and riads. Wander Jemaa el-Fna square for snake charmers and tagine stalls, then explore Jardin Majorelle’s cobalt blue villa. Bahia Palace’s mosaics and Yves Saint Laurent museum add art. Stay in a riad; evenings glow with lanterns.
Fez: Medieval Medina Magic
Fez’s UNESCO car-free medina feels timeless. Navigate labyrinthine alleys to tanneries’ leather dyes, Nejjarine Fountain, and Bou Inania Madrasa. Watch coppersmiths at work; sip mint tea overlooking the chaos. Night markets buzz with harira soup.
Sahara Desert (Merzouga/Erg Chebbi)
Camel trek into golden dunes for starlit camps. Erg Chebbi’s vastness delivers bucket-list sunrises. Quad bikes or 4×4 tours from Merzouga access Berber music under nomad tents. Quad bike or ATV for adrenaline.
Chefchaouen: The Blue Pearl
Chefchaouen’s blue-washed streets in Rif Mountains stun. Hike to Spanish Mosque for panoramas; shop wool rugs. Waterfalls nearby refresh. Rif cannabis lore adds edge, but it’s chill vibes and tagines here.
Essaouira: Atlantic Breeze
Essaouira’s whitewashed ramparts and fresh seafood draw surfers. Kiteboard on beaches; explore medina’s galleries (Jimi Hendrix stayed here). Ramparts inspired Orson Welles; fresh sardines and gnaoua music define evenings.
Ait Benhaddou: Kasbah Cinema Icon
UNESCO mud-brick fortress near Ouarzazate starred in Gladiator and Game of Thrones. Cross palm-fringed river; climb for High Atlas views. Kasbah life persists; nearby film studios offer tours.
