The central government is likely to extend the application deadline for the Electronic Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) beyond July.
“We have received a healthy response to the scheme so far and are considering extending the deadline by a short period,” official sources told Moneycontrol on Thursday, adding that the government is closely monitoring current applications.
The ECMS, a Rs 23,000-crore scheme launched on May 1, is aimed at bridging the demand-supply gap in the electronic component segment. In the first 20 days alone, the scheme attracted 70 applications, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had said in May.
Major industry players, including Tata Electronics, Dixon Technologies, and Foxconn, have reportedly shown interest in participating, sources told Moneycontrol.
According to an official release dated March 28, the scheme is designed to attract large-scale global and domestic investments, enhance domestic value addition, and integrate Indian firms into global value chains (GVCs).
The ECMS targets investments of Rs 59,350 crore, aims to generate production worth Rs 4,56,500 crore, and is expected to create 91,600 direct jobs along with numerous indirect employment opportunities over its tenure.
