Drake Bell has once again claimed “Nickelodeon sucks” as the work he put in for the channel has not paid him well while starring in Drake & Josh from 2004 to 2007.
As he got candid about the dispiriting residuals he receives after starring on the hit teen sitcom Drake & Josh, he discussed the topic while appearing in a video with YouTuber N3on.
The 40-year-old actor, who recently revealed that he no longer has health insurance through SAG-AFTRA, enjoyed a meal at Smoke House in Burbank, where the influencer questioned the star how payment worked when he had been on the show.
“You get a weekly check, and that’s it,” Bell explained, before adding, “That’s it. Unfortunately, no residuals and all that kind of stuff.”
N3on asked if not receiving residuals was “normal,” to which Bell replied, “No, it’s not normal.”
“So, why did that happen?” the YouTuber followed up, to which he responded, “Because Nickelodeon sucks,” which caused N3on to say, “Oh s**t.”
Bell glanced over at the camera with a small smile as he asked, “Oh, can I not say that?’”
The actor then explained that receiving residuals can depend on the contracts and then added, “It’s not great.”
He also shared how younger actors might sign contracts more quickly or agree to a deal while first starting out in the industry.
“You don’t sign the contract, well, the next kid that gets off the Greyhound bus from Wichita, Kansas, he’ll take the job,” Bell said. “There’s good and bad from it.”
He further added of his life past Nickelodeon, “It’s like, well, I have the opportunity to now do things that I love to do, and [it] opens doors, and I have fans.”
