Sources: Slumping Eagles turn to Joe Milton as starting QB vs. Giants

The Philadelphia Eagles will turn to Joe Milton as their starting quarterback Sunday against the New York Giants, sources told NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo and ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Milton will be Philadelphia’s third different starter under center this season and will replace Tanner McKee, who has started the past three games.

The move represents a public about-face for the Eagles, as coach Nick Sirianni said Monday that Philadelphia was sticking with McKee as the starter.

The Eagles (2-6) signed Milton off the Dallas Cowboys‘ practice squad on Oct. 16, one day before they placed Jalen Hurts on injured reserve.

The Eagles and Hurts’ agent announced two days later that the franchise quarterback would be sidelined indefinitely after doctors discovered multiple blood clots in both of his lungs. Sources told ESPN and NFL Network at the time that Hurts is expected to miss the rest of the season.

Milton spent last season as the backup to Dak Prescott in Dallas, appearing in four games off the bench. He joined the Cowboys in an April 2025 trade with the New England Patriots, who selected Milton in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL draft.

Milton was waived by the Cowboys after losing a training camp competition earlier this year for the backup quarterback job with Sam Howell, but Dallas brought him back to the practice squad days later.

The Eagles have lost six consecutive games and enter Week 9 in last place in the NFC East. McKee has started the past three games, completing 63.2% of his passes for 638 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.

ESPN’s Tim McManus contributed to this report.
