Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is set to miss to the rest of the 2026-27 season after sustaining a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament injury during Paris Saint-Germain‘s Champions League victory against Barcelona.
The 25-year-old, who was injured during a collision with Barceloa’s Xavi Espart in the 59th minute of Tuesday’s game, had to be carried from the field by PSG medical staff due to the extent of the injury.
And the Champions League winners have now confirmed that the former Napoli player will undergo surgery on his right knee “in the coming days” to repair the injury.
In a statement, PSG said: “Having suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during yesterday’s match against FC Barcelona, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will undergo surgery in the coming days.”
There is no timescale on the Georgia international’s likely return to action, but with such injuries usually leading to at least nine months on the sidelines, Kavaratskhelia’s chances of playing again this season are slim.

And in a further blow to PSG’s prospects this season, forward Ousmane Dembélé and defender Marquinhos are both facing a “few weeks” out of action after also being injured against Barcelona.
Reigning Ballon d’Or winner Dembele limped off after just 19 minutes with an injury to his left thigh while captain Marquinhos is also now set for a spell on the sidelines with a right thigh problem.
PSG, who consolidated top spot in the Champions League League Phase by beating Barça, travel to Ligue 1 leaders Lyon in a top of the table clash on Sunday.
